In the cold light of winter, 1915, Camille Claudel bends down once again to pick up a stone and examine it. It´s almost as if we are watching a sculptor at work: in her mind she appears to be transforming this simple piece of rock into something new. But then she drops the stone, never to create her art again. Her family has been convinced to commit her to a psychiatric clinic. The film chronicles her endless vigil, hoping to find understanding and recognition as an artist, but also to receive a visit from her beloved brother, the writer Paul Claudel. Following The Life of Jesus, Humanity, and Flanders, Bruno Dumont´s latest drama about the most gifted female sculptor of the world has premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February. "As luck would have it, I was reading a book on Camille Claudel´s life just as she was admitted, and that she was the same age as Juliette. That struck a lightning in my soul, and I thought ‘there we are!´ I quite like that I know nothing about her life, nothing about her admittance, apart from a medical journal. And I liked the idea of writing a script with nothing." - Bruno Dumont
