A family curse, unspoken secrets, and a Europe sick to the bones -only a tragedy could cleanse a tainted past... When Isaac´s father dies in suburban Sydney, a deep schism in the family is revealed which prompts Isaac return to the family homeland. In his parents´ village in Greece, Isaac learns something of his father´s cursed history, which at first he dismisses as superstitious nonsense. But over the course of his travels through Europe (from Greece to Paris and Hungary) he is forced to confront his own madness and the past sins of his family, inherited through the ghosts of Europe´s contemporary outcasts. "I see this film as being about the forgotten people of Europe, the characters other Europeans sometimes wish didn´t exist -a problem they wish would just go away. This goes to the heart of the film and why I wanted to adapt this material. Dead Europe is about history, guilt and secrets. It is inspired by Greek tragedy and is biblical in resonance -how the sins of the fathers are passed on to the sons." - Tony Krawitz
