Article 18 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.” Inspired by this article, 7 filmmakers from 7 countries explored the themes of tolerance and respect for differences. Then and Now is a project produced by Adelina von Fürstenberg, ART for The World and realised under the auspices of of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Council of Europe. Currently imprisoned in his country, Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s latest film, The Accordion is also a part of this collective film and tells the tale of two young street musicians in Teheran.
