This Nigerien musical film was one of the most delightful surprises of 2015. The film, which gets its name Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red in It because of the fact that there is no word for “purple” in Tuareg, is an homage to Prince´s Purple Rain. Throughout the film, Mdou Moctar, who is known to put his own spin on traditional Tuareg music, travels through the desert on his purple motorcycle and battles against other musicians while he tries to solve family matters. Of course, love figures in this story, too… The film, which features back to back captivating musical performances, is directed by Christopher Kirkley, the founder of Sahel Sounds record company which Moctar is signed to. Mdou Moctar is scheduled to perform during the Festival at Salon on 9 April.
