Ever since 1969, when she debuted as a singer-songwriter, Hümeyra has managed to maintain a distinctive personality and style as musician, compositor, lyricist and actress; she extended her fan base thanks to her theatre and film performances. She received countless Golden records, and the songs “Olmasa (Güzelliğin On Para Etmez)”, “Bu Bendeki Aşk Olmasa”, “Kördüğüm”, “Otuz Beş Yaş”, and “Sessiz Gemi” are still on everybody’s lips. Her first performance in front of the camera was in Atıf Yılmaz’s 1980 film Talihli Amele; she went on to appear in Kırık Bir Aşk Hikâyesi (Ömer Kavur), Mine (Atıf Yılmaz), Bir Kadının Anatomisi / Anatmoy of A Woman (Yavuz Özkan) and 80. Adım / The 80th Step (Tomris Giritlioğlu). Throughout the 2000s she acted in several feature films including Çağan Irmak’s Babam ve Oğlum / My Father and Son, Kâbuslar Evi, Ulak and Unutursam Fısılda, and more recently in Caner Özyurtlu’s Biz Böyleyiz (2019) and popular TV series such as Avrupa Yakası, Üzgünüm Leyla, Yalan Dünya, Paramparça, Şahsiyet and Kadın. Her performance in Atıf Yılmaz’s Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur / How To Save Asiye earned her the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival’s Best Supporting Actress award, and her appearance in My Father and Son the Turkish Film Critics Association’s Best Actress award. Her roles in countless stage plays have earned her the Ankara Sanat Kurumu’s Best Actress award (Ödüller Kimin, 1991), and the İsmail Dümbüllü award (Ben Anadolu, 2007).
