Firuze who lives in Iran’s Alborz Mountains lost his father at 9, and had to face hardships very early in life. She helped her mother like an adult, without being granted the opportunity to savour the joys of childhood. She was married off to an older goat herder when she was 14. Ever since, she lives on these mountains, despite the vicious natural conditions. But, reaching 80, there is an extraordinarily encouraging element in this wise woman’s perspective of life, teaching a universal lesson as to not giving up, and furthermore, loving life itself. Screened at several film festivals including IDFA, Beloved tells perhaps a familiar story, but eventually introduces a dauntless and uniquely powerful woman.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
