Taking its title from the vast tidal bore that travels inland on the Amazon River, Pororoca is another powerful entry in the Romanian New Wave that takes a close look at a family whose life turns upside down when their five-year-old daughter goes missing. In his third feature film, director Constantin Popescu reaches technical perfection with an 18-minute uninterrupted sequence. Pororoca dramatises a situation that every parent dreads as it tackles human emotions of fury, sorrow, guilt, despair, and obsession through a missing child case. Bogdan Dumitrache, who portrays the father, has won the Best Actor Award at San Sebastian Film Festival where the film has premiered.
