She was born in Istanbul in 1951. She is a masterful actress who has starred in many films touching on social issues and women's stories. She received her love of art from her grandfather who was a parliamentarian. After secondary school, she took acting lessons from İlyas Avcı and took the conservatory exam. Upon the insistence of Ziya and Ahmet Demirel in Ankara, she started her career in the private theatre company Kardeş Oyuncular. After being selected first in the Saklambaç Cinema Beauty contest organised by Günaydın Newspaper in 1973, she starred in her first film in the same year, Kara Murat Fatih'in Fermanı / Edict of Fatih the Conqueror, in which she shared the lead with Cüneyt Arkın. She starred in Yol (Yılmaz Güney, 1982), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and participated in a talk about the film in The Hague. In 1985, she played one of the leading roles in Pehlivan / The Wrestler, which competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. She won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Antalya Film Festival for Maden / The Mine (Yavuz Özkan, 1978) and the Best Actress Award for Derya Gülü (1979, Süreyya Duru). She won the Best Actress Award at the Istanbul Film and Music Festival for Ben Sana Mecburum (1976, Ülkü Erakalın). 

Among the more than 60 films in which she starred are Zaloğlu Rüstem (1973, Natuk Baytan), İnce Memet Vuruldu (1975, Yılmaz Duru), Köşeyi Dönen Adam (1978, Atıf Yılmaz), Kanal (1978, Erden Kıral), which was invited to the Moscow Film Festival, Öğretmen Kemal (1981, Remzi Jöntürk), Geçim Otobüsü (1984, Süreyya Duru), Tutku (1984, Feyzi Tuna), Kurşun Ata Ata Biter (1985, Ümit Elçi), Gülüşan (1985, Bilge Olgaç), Propaganda (1999, Sinan Çetin). She starred in many TV series such as Yorgun Savaşçı, Hanımın Çiftliği, Kuruluş, Böyle Mi Olacaktı, Kurşun Yarası, Acı Hayat and the German TV series Tatort. She is the recipient of the Eskişehir Film Festival, Trabzon Film Festival, Antakya Film Festival Honorary Awards and ÇASOD Labour Award.
