Born in 1939 in Istanbul, Suna Selen graduated from Atatürk High School for Girls and the Drama Department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. She was instructed by masters Ercüment Behzat Lav and Max Maicnike. She studied for a year each at law school, painting department, and philosophy-sociology department. 

Selen worked as newscaster at Istanbul Radio in 1959-60, and was a national fashion model in 1960 at the National Vocational School. She first took to the stage in 1959 at Cahit Irgat's Room Theatre, an started acting in films with the motivation of master filmmaker Metin Erksan in 1960 in his film Gecelerin Ötesi. She played in numerous plays including Romanoff Juliet (1963), Butterflies Are Free, Macbeth (1992, as actress and prompter), Blood Wedding (1996), Kırmızı Yorgunları (2002), Arıza (2006), Filozof Ahmet (2019). She was awarded the İlhan İskender Best Actress Prize in 1969 with her role in the play Sizi Seviyorum Madam, and the Nadide Küntay Lifetime Achievement Prize in 1969. 

Her film credits include Pamuk Prenses ve Yedi Cüceler / Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1971, Best Character Actress Award in Antalya), Cazibe Hanımın Gündüz Düşleri / Daydreams of Miss Cazibe (1993, Best Supporting Actress Award in Ankara), Gönderilmemiş Mektuplar / Unsent Letters (2003, Best Actress in Istanbul Film Festival), Uzaklarda Arama / Not So Far Away (2015), Zincirbozan (2007), Ara (2007), Bulutları Beklerken / Waiting for the Clouds (2003), Şahmaran / Shahmaran (1993), Piano Piano Bacaksız / Piano Piano Kid (1992), Su Da Yanar / Water Also Burns (1987), At / The Horse (1981), Yusuf ile Kenan (1979), Senede Bir Gün (1971), Bir Millet Uyanıyor / A Nation Awakens (1966). She has also acted in numerous TV series including Kızım, Bizim Hikâye, Ezel, Parmaklıklar Ardında, Doktorlar, Sihirli Annem, Şehnaz Tango, and Mahallenin Muhtarları.
