He is a South African-born film critic and writer based in London. He is the UK critic for international trade bible Variety, a home entertainment columnist for The Observer newspaper, and the co-founder and editor of weekly review site Film of the Week. He is also a regular contributor to The Guardian, Sight & Sound and the BBC Arts Hour, among other outlets, and is currently at work on his first novel.
