Istanbul Film Festival and Başka Sinema at Cannes

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and supported by the Kariyo & Ababay Foundation (KAV), the Istanbul Film Festival and Başka Sinema are launching a new collaboration to enhance the international visibility of cinema from Türkiye: "Istanbul Film Festival x Başka Sinema Goes to Cannes."

This new initiative will present some of the most striking projects from Türkiye currently in post-production, offering them international promotion and collaboration opportunities within the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

For the first time, films with Turkish main or co-production involvement will be featured at Cannes in the “Goes to Cannes” section, a platform hosted by the Marché du Film, which invites five film festivals from around the world representing their respective regions.

The programme will showcase five projects selected by the Istanbul Film Festival’s industry platform, Meetings on the Bridge, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and Başka Sinema, known for bringing independent films to audiences.

The films included in the "Istanbul Film Festival x Başka Sinema Goes to Cannes" program — all of which have never been presented to industry professionals on any international platform before — are:

  • Beklenti (Expectation)
Director: Ali Özel | Producer: Ali Özel | Co-producers: Osman Enes Yakut, Ahmet Necati Erdem
  • En Güzel Cenaze Şarkıları (The Greatest Funeral Hits)
Director: Ziya Demirel | Producer: Anna Maria Aslanoğlu

Director: Nuri Cihan Özdoğan | Producers: Nuri Cihan Özdoğan, Kaan Özdoğan, Hasan Doğanay, Oben Yılmaz
  • Sevda (Sevda)
Director: Ufuk Emiroğlu | Producers: Nicolas Wadimoff, Nadia Turincev, Omar El Kadi, Eva Kuperman, Ersan Çongar, Aslı Filiz

Through this collaboration, the selected projects will have the opportunity to present excerpts from their films to international industry professionals, engage in one-on-one meetings with sales agents, festival programmers, and distributors, and foster international partnerships.
