Corneliu Porumboiu, one of the most accomplished directors of contemporary Romanian cinema, steps back from startling social dramas and focuses, in his own style, on one of the few activities that is cherished around the globe: football. In the film, Porumboiu talks to his childhood friend Laurentiu Ginghina, an ex-footballer and today’s bureaucrat who broke his leg in the ‘80s playing the sport. Ginghina is a self-proclaimed “football revolutionist” who wants to upgrade the game to what he calls “infinite football.” His revolutionary ideas include cutting up the corners of the football field and turning it into an octagon. Touching everything from football to the EU, Infinite Football is an entertaining documentary about hope, change, life, and, of course, football.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
