An homage to Yılmaz Güney, one of the legends of Turkish and world cinema, The Legend of Ugly King addresses his world view, artistic sensibilities, and life in the raw through interviews conducted with his family, colleagues, and friends. Premiered on the 33rd death anniversary of Yılmaz Güney, the film recounts through testimonials how Güney became a legend in European cinema after winning the Palm d’Or with Yol at Cannes in 1982. It took director Hüseyin Tabak seven years to complete The Legend of Ugly King which features interviews with such esteemed directors as Costa Gavras and Michael Haneke.
