The intricate oneiric visual language so particular of Kotzamani’s cinema is immediately sensible in Arundel, which she made while still a film student. Shot in 16mm, the film’s very texture gives the impression that it belongs to another epoch. The criss-crossing of different temporalities make for a breaching of linear storytelling. Letters take the viewer on a voyage toward emotional memory. An island hiding the days of youth and its heartbreaks, nostalgia, regret, illnesses, mysterious dogs... Everything concurs to make this short film a beacon, shining the stylistic light of a future master director.
