2021 Berlin Golden Bear

“I consider all of my films to be essentially honest comedies,” says Radu Jude, and his latest film which won the Golden Bear for best film at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival is just that. Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn is a brilliant COVID-era satire of contemporary times that follows a schoolteacher who finds her reputation and career under threat after a sex tape with her husband is uploaded onto the internet. A film in three loosely connected parts, it was inspired by an actual newspaper article and the ensuing fierce discussions of Jude with his friends. The president of the International Competition jury of the Istanbul Film Festival, Radu Jude says, “sexuality is just the pretext, we observe our hypocrisy of morality and casual everyday unpleasantness.”
