Copilot is mainly a film about love that deals with “guilt and love conflict,” as put by director Berrached. Its main character, Aslı, is a German of Turkish descent, and Saeed, to whom she falls in love with is a charismatic Lebanese migrant. When they meet in the mid-90s, it’s love at first sight, then they secretly get married in Hamburg, even though Aslı’s mother is against the relationship. Then Saeed disappears... until a horrible incident that shakes and transforms the whole world. Following Zwei Mütter / Two Mothers and 24 Wochen / 24 Weeks which was screened at the festival, this is Anne Zohra Berrached’s third feature film.
