Dial M for Murder is the sole Hitchcock film to employ 3D technology. Quite loyal to its original source, Frederick Knott’s popular stage play, and being set in one location, the film is theatrical and distinguishable with its masterful dialogues and direction of actors. And of course, Grace Kelly, as the socialite Margot who is attempted to be murdered by her pro tennis player husband, takes her proper place within the pantheon of Hitchcock’s ‘sophisticated blondes.’ Cinematographer Robert Burks, a frequent Hitchcock collaborator during his colour era, makes innovative and effective use of colour in this film, from Kelly’s darkening clothes to the light design in the unforgettable trial scene, which is constructed on the close-ups of her face.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
