A true indie gem, El Planeta tells the dark humour story of a mother and daughter. The director, writer, and producer of the film, Amalia Ulman shares the lead with her real life mother, Ale Ulman. The film had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Set in the Spanish seaside town of Gijón, El Planeta follows this quirky couple as they bluff and grift to keep up the lifestyle they think they deserve. An artist whose practice includes performance, installation, video and net-art works, Amalia Ulman says, "I don’t know why there’s this crusade against humour, as if you can’t use comedy if you want to be taken seriously – I think it’s a real shame."

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
