Theme Sponsor
Malgorzata Szumowska, whose The Other Lamb we recently watched, has co-directed this darkly funny and unusual superhero film with her long-time collaborator, screenwriter and cinematographer, Michal Englert. Premiering at Venice Film Festival, the film opens with an attractive, young man who appears out of nowhere, offering massage services at a gated, wealthy community. An exotic man with a Russian accent, this masseur is called Zhenia, and he has a gift: his hands heal, his eyes penetrate the souls of the lonely women. To them, his voice sounds like the song of the past, a peaceful melody of their childhood, when the world was a safer place. Zhenia changes the lives of these unhappy rich people, whose children don’t make snowmen anymore. Alec Utgoff, who plays Zhenia, was in the cast of Stranger Days and many feature films including Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
