2014 Hellenic Film Academy Best Short Film

We are within an alternate imagination of Athens. The palm trees have grown ill, as we watch the city guided by the poetic voice over of a man who tries to speak their language. Actually, the city suffers from the same illness as the palm trees. The city is sprinkled with the absence of love, and melancholia. We look into the giraffes’ eyes and learn the size of their hearts. Trees, animals and the city, recurrent elements in Kotzamani’s films, occupy the main role. Washingtonia, which had its world premiere at the Berlinale, features some of the signature themes and images of Kotzamani’s artistic language.
