2022 Sundance Alfred P. Sloan Prize
Starring Colin Farrell and Umbrella Academy star Justin H Min as an android, After Yang had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival in 2021 and later screened at Sundance where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize awarded to a film that focuses on science or technology. Directed by Korean-American filmmaker Kogonada (Columbus), who is influenced by Japanese master filmmaker Ozu, After Yang is set in a world where robotic children are purchased as live-in babysitters. When his young daughter's beloved companion — an android named Yang — malfunctions, Jake searches for a way to repair him. In the process, Jake discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife (Jodie Turner-Smith) and daughter across a distance he didn't know was there. After Yang is a delicately crafted sci-fi drama about grief, family, loss, memory, nature, emotions and acceptance, a very human film about the death of an android.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
