2021 Berlin Golden Bear Best Film

Carla Simón's latest feature Alcarràs is the first Catalan-language film to win the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. Featuring non-professional actors, the film follows the Solé family, who have picked peaches for generations from their orchard in Alcarràs, a small village in Catalonia. But this year’s crop could be their last, as they face eviction, cutting down the peach trees and installing solar panels, which causes a rift within the large tight-knit family. Alcarràs is a follow-up to Carla Simón's popular breakthrough Estiu 1993 / Summer 1993 (Istanbul Film Festival Special Jury Prize, 2017).

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
