The Roman suburb of Latina: marshes, reclaimed land, moisture... A town where the main attractions are abandoned nuclear plants. And in this featureless town, we meet Massimo. a professional, courteous, and calm dentist, who has attained everything he could have desired in life: a villa, a loving family… Nothing could disrupt such a peaceful existence. Except that, one day, Massimo visits his cellar and his life is suddenly taken over by the absurd––in his cellar he discovers a woman bound to a pole, gagged, and beaten. The latest film by the twin directors of Favolacce / Bad Tales that competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2021 is a playful mystery psychodrama shot in 35mm and scored by the Italian rock band Verdena. 'We chose to take the riskiest path for us: kindness. Kindness and all its extreme consequences. America Latina is a film on light and we have chosen the privileged viewpoint of darkness from which to observe it,' say the directors.
