Returning home after a long night’s shift, Amparo realizes that her 18-year-old son, Elias, has been drafted to the army to be sent to the war zone near the border. With only a day left until his departure, Elias’ fate is in his mother Amparo’s hands, who has no clue what to do and whom to call for help. Amparo captures the depressing nature of bureaucracy and the boundless courage of a mother while taking its audience on a journey through the uncanny streets of Medellin. The lead actress, Sandra Melissa Torres, stands out with her calm and magnetic performance, despite not having a professional acting background. Colombian director Simón Mesa Soto paints a compelling portrait of corruption and desperation in his feature debut.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
