Fast boats, even faster boats, trap music, young blood, all against the dreamlike backdrop of Venetian palaces. Daniele is a young man who lives on an island on the edges of the Venice Lagoon. He dreams of a record-breaking 'barchino' (motorboat), just like his peers, on a cult-like obsession. But everything he does to further his dream turns out to be tragically counterproductive and is destined to fail violently. Mingling documentary cinema with contemporary art in his work, Italian video artist and filmmaker Yuri Ancarani's film premiered within the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival. Its story developed over four years of observation, and features actual dialogues and music. Atlantide shows a side of Venice that normally remains hidden to outsiders, an 'obscene' sight for the elders of the city.
This film is screened with the generous support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Istanbul.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
