A psychological drama about family, sex, and a little blood, Blue Moon follows a girl’s psychological journey of dehumanization. While struggling for higher education and to break free of her dysfunctional family, Irina transforms from victim to abuser. An ambiguous sexual encounter with an artist gives her the strength to fight the violent approaches of the men in her family. For years, themes like family grip suffocation and toxic relationships have drawn their roots from the political, economic, financial, religious, or purely dogmatic environment in Romania and elsewhere. Blue Moon looks at the female transformation in this context. Awarded as actress in Romanian features Illegitimate and Aurora, this is Alina Grigore’s debut feature film as director. A result of collaborative exploration and interdisciplinary approach of a five-year-long continuous process, Blue Moon follows an imprecise narrative thread and its story unfolds from emotions.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
