'Cannes' Hidden Gem' according to The Hollywood Reporter, Feathers cleverly subverts Egyptian patriarchy through a small, ordinary family’s absurd ordeal. When a magic trick goes awry at a children’s birthday party, the authoritative father of the family turns into a chicken. The meek mother is now urged to seek out an income, care for both her children and her new pet, while also trying to find a way to reverse the surprise outcome of the magical trick. As darkly comical and absurdist, Feathers is yet a heart-breaking chronicle of poverty and survival. 'We live in a crazy world now, so it’s nice to be absurd,' says director El Zohairy, who previously worked as an assistant director for some prominent figures of Egyptian cinema, including Yousry Nasrallah.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
