Palestinian filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad, well-known to the festival audience with Paradise Now and Omar, returns with his latest film that premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival. Inspired by real events, this thriller follows two Palestinian women, Nadia and Huda, whose fates intertwine at a hair salon at Bethlehem in the West Bank. Nadia, a young mother married to a jealous man, goes to Huda’s salon, for a haircut and an attentive ear. But this ordinary visit turns sour when Huda, after having put Nadia in a shameful situation, blackmails her to have her work for the secret service of the occupiers, and thus betray her people. Nadia somehow escapes, but this time Huda will find herself in an impossible situation.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
