A man involved in a passionate relationship with a celebrated writer 38 years his senior needs to talk about her. He is fascinated by her and yet he feels he just cannot go on anymore. He opens up, in an attempt to put into words the intensity, uniqueness of his love. Yann Andréa was in an honest, unique, passionate, extreme relationship that lasted 16 years with Marguerite Duras, about whom he said 'wants to be the favourite, the only, to all, to everyone.' Claire Simon's latest film which competed for the Golden Seashell at the San Sebastián Film Festival dramatizes posthumous transcripts from a 1982 interview between Andréa and Duras' close friend, relentless journalist Michèle Manceaux. Including long uninterrupted sequences (like jazz, describes Simon), this film, like the interview itself, tries to explore the sexual imbalances and power plays amidst idolising, acceptance, creative genius, and the desire to be immortal between a tortured soul and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
