Directed by the New French Extremity duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (A l'intérieur / Inside (2007) and Livide / Livid (2011)), Kandisha is a reinterpretation of the 14th century Moroccan folk legend Aicha Kandisha. As the contemporary alternative to the Moroccan settings of Jérôme Cohen-Olivar's 2008 horror-crime-drama Kandisha, Maury and Bustillo's story takes place in a French banlieue. It is summer break and best friends Amélie, Bintou and Morjana hang together with other neighbourhood teens. Nightly, they have fun sharing scary stories and urban legends. But when Amélie is assaulted by her ex, she remembers the story of Kandisha, a powerful and vengeful demon who appears as a beautiful young woman with the legs of a hoofed animal. Afraid and upset, Amélie summons Kandisha. The next day, her ex is found dead. The legend is true and now Kandisha is on a killing spree—and it's up to the three girls to break the curse.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
