Mariana, 21 years old, belongs to a world where she must do her utmost to keep up the appearance of a perfect woman. In order to resist temptation, she and her girlfriends try their best to control everything and everyone around them. And that includes the town sinners. At night, their girl squad put on masks, hunt, and beat up all women who have deviated from the right path––the 'impure,' the 'perverted,' a 'Jezebel.' However, the day will come when the urge to scream will be stronger than it ever has been… A dark utopia despite its pop aesthetics Medusa is Rio-born director Anita Rocha da Silveira's second feature that follows Kill Me Please (2015) premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.

The return of the demure female devoted to her man and violent attacks on teenage women prompted da Silveira: 'When I read the news about the young women gathering to attack a fellow woman, I instantly thought of Medusa… To create Medusa, my main influence was Dario Argento, especially in Suspiria (1977) and La Sindrome di Stendhal (1996.)'

This film is screened as part of the events of the bicentennial of the independence of Brazil with the generous support of the Consulate General of Brazil in Istanbul.

Due to a technical problem, the 9 April Cinewam City's 19.00 screening will not have English subtitles.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
