Based on the novel Leák Ngakak by Putra Mada, Mystics in Bali is a cult classic of Indonesian horror cinema. The film explores black magic and a well-known figure of Southeast Asian folklore, the penanggalan, a vampiric entity that appears in the form of a flying head of a disembodied woman with its trailing organs still attached. The film tells the story of Cathy, an American researcher who travels to Bali in order to learn black magic. She meets a witch who promises to train her in the dark arts. The witch has a darker intention, though: trapped in a cult, Cathy is turned into a penanggalan.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
