Nitram, the latest feature by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth, and True History of the Kelly Gang) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and brought its lead Caleb Landry-Jones the Best Actor award. The film chronicles the days ahead of the Port Arthur Massacre, one of the most violent shootings in the history of Australia, for the first time from the point of view of its perpetrator, to convey its anti-arming message. Nitram lives with his mother and father, and leads a life of isolation and frustration. He unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress. However, when that friendship meets its tragic end, he begins a slow descent into a nightmare that culminates in the most nihilistic and heinous of acts.
Scenes depicting sexuality/violence in this film might be disturbing for some viewers.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
