Winner of the Golden Tulip, grand prize of the Istanbul Film Festival International Competition, with his film Atlantis in 2020, Valentyn Vasyanovych premiered his latest film, which credits the director also as the cinematographer and the editor, at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Revisiting the war between his country and Russia, he traces the deep scars left in the society on a more personal note, through a surgeon trying to reconnect with his family. Reflection’s protagonist Serhiy is a Ukrainian surgeon captured by the Russian military forces. Upon being released, he returns to his humble life with his ex-wife and daughter, but after all he has witnessed and been through, it will take time to learn how to be a human being again.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
