The latest feature film by Ukrainian filmmaker and political activist Oleh Sentsov premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section as the closing film. The story centres around a young gangster nicknamed Rhino, who’s trying to survive Ukraine’s ‘wild 90s.’ Starting out as an aggressive delinquent, Rhino quickly works his way up the criminal hierarchy. Rhino has only known power and cruelty, but with nothing left to lose, could he finally find a chance at redemption? Inspired by one of his friends in real life for the Rhino character, Oleh Sentsov was arrested in 2014 by the Russian intelligence agency FSB, interrupting the production of the film, which only resumed following his release in 2019.
Some scenes of violent/sexual content might disturb some viewers.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
