Uruguay-born Mexican Rodrigo Plá returns with his first film since A Monster with a Thousand Heads which won the Golden Tulip at Istanbul Film Festival in 2016. Adapted from a novel by Laura Santullo, The Other Tom is Plá's latest collaboration with Santullo, who has worked with him for his earlier films. The Other Tom tells the story of Elena, a working single mother, and her nine-year-old son Tom, who is recently diagnosed with ADHD. Elena cuts the meds off when she thinks they affect Tom badly. But being disruptive, unfocused, and angry, Tom is already stigmatized at school as a 'problem child', and things quickly escalate as both his situation and her relation with Social Services deteriorate.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
