2021 Otranto Best Director
Ildikó Enyedi's first film since On Body and Soul (2017), The Story of My Wife premiered at Cannes 2021 within the main competition. Jakob Störr, a hardened, Dutch sea captain, makes a bet in a tavern to marry the first woman who enters the place. And then Lizzy walks in... Usually writing her own original scripts, and this is the first time Enyedi has adapted a literary work, from a cult novel in Hungary by Milán Füst. Enyedi says, 'We made this film about love, passion, drama, adventure, about the thousand colours of life––a shamelessly emotional tale about what it means to be a man, what it means to be a woman, what it means to be human.'
This film is screened with the generous support of Hungarian Culture Center.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
