Shown in the Cannes Premiere section at 2021 Cannes Vortex is a very personal film and a window into Noé's own mortality. Gaspar Noé created the project after suffering a dangerously severe brain haemorrhage which very nearly killed him, followed by the COVID confinement. Starring giallo master Dario Argento, Vortex is almost entirely presented in split screen, as 'each form of life is living in their own tunnel,' and one of the two cameras used for the split screen was operated by Noé himself. A film about the last days of a loving, elderly couple stricken by age and dementia, Gaspar Noé dedicates the film to 'all of the people who lose their minds before they lose their hearts.'

You can watch the Q&A session with Gaspar Noé at the 19 April screening here.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
