2023 Berlin Grand Jury Prize
The latest film by Christian Petzold, the director of Barbara, Transit, and Undine, has had its world premiere at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival within the main competition. The second instalment of his trilogy on elemental forces, Afire is set in a small holiday house by the Baltic sea. The days are hot and it hasn’t rained in weeks. Four young people come together, two old friends and two new. As the parched forests around them begin to catch fire, so do their emotions. Happiness, lust and love; but also jealousies, resentments and tensions. And before long, the flames are there.
This film is screened with the generous support of German Films.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
