Property dissects the social disparities within Brazil through a story that begins with a traumatised woman and evolves into a thriller about farm workers’ revolt. The film follows the wealthy Teresa, who travels to her family’s farm after a deeply upsetting incident. When rebelling workers occupy Teresa’s family estate, she flees at the last minute into her armoured car. She is trapped, but refuses to negotiate. World premiering at 2023 Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section, Property is described as a ’survival thriller’ where two universes collide. ’Ancient codes govern our labour, race, and class relations. This is how fear and violence continue to rule our society,’ says Brazilian director Daniel Bandeira.
