2022 Seville En İyi Best Director
‘You can do so-called miracles with your own hands.’ Thus begins the new period drama from Pietro Marcello (Martin Eden) that blends music, history, and folklore—a poetic fable built on magical realism. Spanning 20 years, Scarlet follows Juliette, a mischievous little girl, who grows up alone with her father in a village in northern France. One day, Juliette meets a witch who reveals to her that she’s destined for greater things and one day, some scarlet sails will appear to take her away from the village. Juliette then never stops believing in the prophecy. Set in an almost magical realm, an enchanted, poetically affectionate world, Scarlet was adapted from the novel by celebrated Russian writer Alexander Grin, and was screened as the opening film of Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight.
This film is screened with the generous support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
