One of the greatest samurai films of all time and an indisputable action classic, 13 Assassins according to critics is electric, terrifically entertaining with dizzying panache, directed with great visuals and sound, and a stirring, unexpectedly moving story of love and blood. Kôji Yakusho, as war-weary veteran samurai Shimada leads a team of eleven samurai to kill the ruthless Lord Matsudaira, who is wreaking havoc against his own people. The team is to set an ambush for the lord’s annual journey to his homeland. Especially renowned for its ingeniously plotted, and inventively shot 45-minute-long final action sequence, the screenplay of 13 Assassins was written by Daisuke Tengan, who had also written Miike’s Audition.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
