2024 Berlin Grand Jury Prize

The second film by Hong Sang-soo included in the programme, A Traveler’s Needs, stars the one and only Isabelle Huppert once again as a woman who has come from France to Korea. Nobody knows where the mysterious woman comes from. She is sitting on a park bench, diligently playing a child’s recorder. With no money or means of supporting herself, she has been advised to teach French to two Korean women, finding solace in lying down on rocks and relying on rice wine with each meal for comfort. But things remain as hard as ever. A Traveler’s Needs is the latest subtle comedy by Korean auteur Sang-soo on the human condition focusing on a woman with no history or no future and his second film in the programme.

This film is screened with the kind contribution of Korean Culture Center.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
