‘Tunisia. A word I have trouble articulating, when I want to tell it to my son.’ Dhia, who left his homeland Tunisia after the revolution to settle in France, is worried that his stuttering will be passed on to his two-year-old son Elia. To overcome this disorder, he sets out with hypnosis sessions. As these sessions progress, however, it becomes clear that the real issue is not his speech but his sense of self, identity and his feelings about Tunisia. Scrutinising belonging, family, expatriate life, future concerns, and social unity through Tunisians of different generations, Behind the Sun underlines the indispensability of hope in future generations.
This film is screened with the kind contribution of Institut Français.
Behzad Nalbandi’s short animation Anita, Lost in the News will be screened before this film.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
