It is claimed that once every 15 minutes, someone on earth plays Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.
Paris, the Roaring Twenties. Choreographer Ida Rubinstein chooses Maurice Ravel to compose the music for her next ballet. She wants something bold, something sensual, ‘Carnal! Bewitching! Erotic!’ Already well-known and established as France’s foremost living composer, Ravel finds himself incapable of writing anything. Reliving his memories, facing his old loves and failures, close friendships, military service during the First World War, the composer will give birth to his greatest success ever: the Boléro. Anne Fontaine’s passionate and intelligent biopic of the composer is as colourful as her 2019 biopic on the fashion designer Coco avant Chanel.
This film is screened with the kind contribution of Institut Français.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
