Leaving her village to follow her dream of becoming an actress, Hiam Abbass also left behind her mother, grandmother, and seven sisters. Thirty years later, her actor-filmmaker daughter Lina Soualem travels back in time and place, and returns with Abbass to journey through the vanished places among the scattered memories of four generations of daring Palestinian women. Without hate yet with anger, Bye Bye Tiberias is a moving, tender, heart-wrenching, and poetic film interlaced with history through sadness and longing, grief and identity. Premiering at Venice Days, and later screened at numerous festivals including Toronto, London, and Chicago, Bye Bye Tiberias was Palestine’s Oscars candidate.
