The stirring new film by multi-award-winning German auteur Andreas Dresen, who visited the festival with the sensational Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush, is a moving, touching, humanist drama. Berlin, 1942: it was the most beautiful summer for Hilde – madly in love with Hans and joyfully pregnant. But amid the passion there is grave danger. Hans becomes involved in the anti-Nazi resistance, with a group of young people who will later be called the ‘Red Orchestra.’ Despite the huge risks, Hilde decides to get involved herself, too, but is arrested by the Gestapo. She finds herself in a desperate situation when she gives birth to her son in prison. Premiered at the Berlinale in February, From Hilde with Love was especially praised for Babylon Berlin Star Liv Lisa Fries’ performance as Hilde that ‘moves you to tears.’
