A musical film that reimagines history to tell the story of a group of young women musicians who invent pop music in 18th century Italy. Gloria! is set in a convent boarding school for girls in Venice and follows Teresa, a mute young woman with visionary musical abilities. Together with a small group of extraordinary musicians, she leaps across the centuries and defies the dusty old regime by inventing a rebellious, light, and modern music: pop! A shoutout to the erased history of women in music, boiling with joy, music, and strong, star women who take matters into their own hands, composer Margherita Vicario’s debut feature premiered at Berlinale where it competed for the Golden Bear. The film’s score includes Vicario’s own original compositions.
