‘In summer, the North; in winter, the South,’ says dad, ‘There are no tourists then, and locals have cash.’ An old camper van passes through an obscure Russian province, carrying a teen girl, her father, and a rusty film projector. They have been on the road for ten years or more, drifting among the eerie picturesque ‘nowheres.’ But everything changes on the way up north, when their car – their whole world – eventually explodes. Built on the traditions of Slavic folk tales, Grace chronicles both a physical and a metaphorical journey characterised by paradoxical conversations, tense shrill of the cicada, and rough breath of the sea wind... Ilya Povolotsky’s independently funded and produced debut feature had its world premiere at Cannes within the Director’s Fortnight section.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
