1984, London: Christmas is every day for 7-year-old Maria and her mother, who live in their own loving world built on sorting through bins and collecting shiny rubbish. They hoard infinite souvenirs from their night time walks, fill their sacks of joy for their catalogue of love. One night, their world falls apart. 1994: Maria is now living with her foster mother. When she arrives home one day, at the top stairs, waiting, are two bare feet. A stranger, who has a familiar scent of trauma, a childhood pain. The following days are slow and strange, the door to magic and madness has opened. The first film by Luna Carmoon, who often interweaves the poetic absurd with the mundane, is shaped by her own resurfaced memories and sensations: ‘The door is always ajar when it comes to memories and grief. They surprise you, and play hide and seek.’
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
